Massage:  Kneading and rubbing of muscles

Depending on what massage is given will depend on how relaxed or stimulated you feel after the treatment.  I am studying massage at the moment and going through all the Anatomy  and physiology of it all.  will update as and when I can

Reiki :       Laying on of hands. not kneading or rubbing of muscles (however there are techniques that come close to massage. In my view massage is done with a certain amount of pressure and I will argue that the techniques used in Reiki do not compare with those used for massage pressure wise)

Swedish Massage

This is a very relaxing massage, working mainly on the superficial muscles unlike Sports massage which works on the deeper muscles ,   I personally do not do Sports massage but I have some very good friends that maybe able help you out.

Here is a example of how Massage may help you.

How many people use computers all day , come on hands up. okay how many of you use them for a few hours at a time? Health and safety give out guidelines about holding your body properly, stretching exercises, not looking at the screen to long, having the screen at the right height so you more comfortable and not straining.

Muscles have a memory bank in them and if they get abused (to long in a certain position)  they may well get stuck,  GOOD news with the help of massage and gently manipulating the muscles new life can be restored. Please note though some conditions may need extra help another line of therapy  like sports, remedial massage, physiotherapy  aromatherapy, Reiki the list is endless. I think it is a good idea to discuss any complimentary therapy with your normal G.P.  first. When you go to any therapist you should always be asked to fill in a consultation form before any treatment is given This will the therapist to determine. IF the treatment will benefit you

Massage, like most other therapies can be dated back to some very early times. When you consider in Arabic that the word mass means "to touch or feel" both these words are fundamental to massage.

As a therapist we touch the body and we also feel the tightness within the muscles and can tell where muscle has become very twisted known as knotting. all massage techniques no matter what name is given (sports, remedial, physiotherapy, shiatsu ..... ) can help to release these knots.  Something else that I think is worth explaining here to is , we exercise to stimulate the flow of Oxygen, nutrients and blood round the body, the exercise also cuts the chatterbox out of the brain (must do this, must do that, did I forget to turn the gas of, sort of thing)   through this exercise we feel (very tired after hahahahaa) rejuvenated normally after the exercise we can think clearer to.  Massage also stimulates the bodies flow of oxygen, nutrients an so on, it will also help with the chatterbox and let the bodies natural healing system take control once more. The Greeks namely Hippocrates, the farther of medicine strongly believed in the use of massage for healing purposes.

Per Henrik Ling, a fencing master and physiologist  born in 1776  leaving in 1839.  He had a great influence the work he did with massage was recognized in 1813 by the Swedish Government.  Today Swedish Massage is mainly this mans accumulation of knowledge. Most massage training done today requires a knowledge of the Swedish System first
